THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS: At
the new birth, Christ washes us clean of our sins and gives us a new nature,
breaking the power of sin over us so that we will no longer be its slaves, but its enemies;
Rom6:1-22; Eph6:11-17. So many times, Jesus told those that came to Him for
help that their sins are forgiven; Lk7:48; 5:20-23; Mt9:5; Mk2:9-10; Acts3:19;
Eph1:7; Heb10:17; Col1:13-14; Eph2:1; Rom8:1; Acts10:42-43; Acts13:38.
Forgiveness by the blood is a powerful and liberating teaching that we
must understand in order to experience true freedom from guilt and shame of our
past. It is absolutely essential for us to realize the forgiving power of the
blood of Jesus. Nothing we can do will ever add to or take away from the work
that Christ did on cross.
I think the reason why it is so hard to grasp the true forgiving power
of Christ’s shed blood is because it just seems too good to be true. In the Old
Testament, the priests could sacrifice lambs, goats etc, to cover the people’s
sins. However, this sacrifice was not significant to remove the stain of sin.
But since Christ shed His blood, our sins are now removed; Heb10:1-22; Mt26:28;
Jn1:29; 2Cor5:21; Heb10:2.119.22; Rom2:29; Gal6:15; Heb9:11-15; Heb9:24-28; Heb12.
